i don't know where you get all floppy emulators devellopment time to deduct this . What i could say is that 1 or 2 weeks is enough to get something "working". After this is another story (new features,bugs correcting, manufacturing, and user support...)

...other projects may be inspire him, may be his faulty floppy drives who knows. But it does not matter at all. You can also get some inspirations from UFE. This is good thing for retro computer lovers. Both Hxc and others great hardwares and we like them. Good luck with your projects.

About the speed of devellopement you seem to forget the TFE project. So this wasn't its first attempt ;-)
And as he wrote himself he got some inspirations from existing floppy emulators : SDisk Emule emulator, Amiga floppy emulator, hxc...
Not a critic, this is a normal behavior for an engineer/conceptor.
So once you have learn about your past errors and other's people errors, you can speed up a lot the design of a new device ;-)
(And technically don't forget that a floppy emulator isn't very complex)

And for the history, don't forget this : The first true Amiga Floppy emulator was this one :

And Yes the SDCard HxC Floppy Emulator is now a commercial project.
And i believe me that this is a very good thing for this kind of project, the best means to distribute it!
Lotharek has really boosted and changed the project ;-) (analyze the firmware update release notes you will understand)

The LCD is not the only way to select a floppy image, there are also a software solution (works on all Amiga, CPC and Atari ST computers for the moment).

For this a little hardware mod is needed. The Microchip 23K256 SPI SRAM can be add on the actual pcb like this :

Hi,
For the Oric you need the MicroDisc interface (there are no FDC in the oric). There are an external floppy port on the microdisc and you can connect another floppy disk drive (or emulator).

USB & SD HxC Floppy Emulator can be used that way with the MicroDisc+Oric setup.

I know there were a project to replace the full microdisc (disk drive +fdc) by a FPGA in the past, but i don't know more about this.

(note to tolga : USB version used a CPLD not a FPGA ;-) )

i think that the PIC firmwares are very close (emrez used it as a start point), so it should support hfe file without problem.

the step 2 & 3 are useless : the software create the floppy image directly from the rom file.

there are a command line version of the hxc floppy emulator software to convert a large quantities of floppy image with one command line ;-) (this soft are called "img2hfe").

If this device uses standard msdos floppies (fat12), then the software already support it. (make a directory with a name containing ".fat1440", and copy your rom file to this folder and drag&drop it to the software.)

I really appreciate your offer to support the .tfe format in your software. The thing is, the .tfe format isn't really finalized yet. Right now, it's basically raw MFM, but without the long gap that occurs every 11 sectors. So it's somewhat Amiga specific, which isn't what I want exactly.

One thing that might also make sense is perhaps if I add .hfe file format support in my emulator's firmware. I think I'll have a look at your firmware sources to understand the format better when I have the time.

in fact the .hfe format isn't really finalized too. ;-). But if you want it can be an starting point. When you are ready, send me an email and i will give you details about the format.

There were a couple of main reasons why I started this project: First, I wanted to make an emulator that had a set of features that better suited my needs. And second, I had taken a break from electronics for a while and I needed a project to get me started again which was at just the right difficulty level. I didn't understand all in this forum, but this project seems interesting.
It seems similar to some others floppy emulator project, like the sdiskemul (http://atariamiga.free.fr/installation_sdiskemul_amiga600.php)
or the HxC Floppy Emulator (http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/index.html).

I am the author of the HxC Floppy Emulator and like you i use an custom file format (*.hfe file) generated from floppy image by an software.
ST, MSA, STX, ADF, ADZ, IPF, CPC DSK, CopyQM DSK, Oric DSK, PC IMG and MSX DSK file formats are currently supported.
If you want i can add the *.TFE file format as output file format in the software! This will allows you support some others file format/platform quickly. ;-)
